Welcome Home by Najwa Zebian

Note to self: I should write more book reviews - and I vow to try and add some more as time goes on. This book was recommended by a friend and touched me. The first time I picked it up, I though - uhoh this is a bit heavy, then a few weeks later, when my soul was ready - I felt the power of Welcome Home. Given to us by Najwa who is a celebrated poet and speaker is a journey that encouraged me to look deeper within myself.

This book promotes understanding why you are vulnerable, maybe helps to recognise and explore some past experiences and then turns the corners to embrace and acknowledge your self-worth. It made me feel whole and gave me some strength to love myself for exactly who I am today. It is a little connected to co-dependency, showing how we put a lot of emphasis on other people's acceptance of us and when those people part, we let it affect us - with the help of this book those holes in the soul don't need to appear. I am whole.

The author shares her own story as a young Muslim leaving Lebanon for Canada, building a new identity for herself, a stable foundation, an identity independent of cultural expectations and the influence of others.

She creates rooms where we can hang out: Self-Love, Forgiveness, Compassion, Clarity, Surrender, and The Dream Garden.

She outlines within these rooms some practical tools and prompts for self-understanding, and shows how to build each room in your house, which form a firm basis for your self-worth, sense of belonging, and happiness. Welcome Home gave me a little bit more self acceptance and happiness. Every little gem received from every different author or experience is what makes me who I am today and I am eternally grateful to all these teachers who have been put in my path.
