Solar Plexus Chakra - Manipura

Updated: Mar 27, 2022

The third of our Chakras in the journey through the Chakras, Manipura is situated at the base of the rib cage above the naval. The physical body parts associated are the stomach, upper digestive organs, stomach, liver, diaphragm, adrenal glands and the immune system. This Chakra is associated with instinct, intuition and confidence.

The colour associated with Solar Plexus Chakra is yellow. It is linked with energy, willpower and the element of fire. If you can imagine a fire burning, you could liken this to thinking about firing up, igniting, starting with a bang, having power, force and motivation - the phrase "having fire in your belly". Though if you think about the rays of the sun, there is the flip-side balance where the warmth of those golden rays give a feeling of calm and contentment, the sun on your skin bringing a smile to your face.

This Chakra is strongly associated with the gut instinct that we have: that feeling of butterflies or nerves the night before an interview, or the unease within your stomach when you know something doesn't quite sit right with you, or the excitement in your stomach when you are getting ready to leave for holiday.

Finding Balance

If your Solar Plexus chakra is weak you may find everything seems overwhelming, you may lack direction, have little self-confidence, feel unsure and are unable to make choices or decisions.

If however, this Chakra is over developed you could be egotistical, a bully, maybe find it hard to switch off, always competing (often with yourself), striving but never really taking any time to enjoy the fruits of your labour. This is another Chakra where, if overpowered, addiction is commonplace.

In order to rebalance this Chakra, take time to focus on the colour yellow, the sunlight, the daffodils, beach, candles - wear something yellow, carry a yellow pencil - bring that colour into your day.

- Change your posture - stand up straight - be confident

- Detox your diet - cut back on fats and alcohol - go big on fruit and veg

- Exercise - just do it - even a short walk will be worth it

- Work with fire - light candles - get out in the sunlight

- Stay calm and quiet - walking and breathing and focussing on just this

Enjoy balancing this Chakra!

Maybe just take a little time to visualise how you are when this Chakra is completely balanced. Close your eyes and consider that a difficult task you have been putting off, is done - its all done and complete. You are smiling out in the sunshine, happy and content with the result, visualise how you will feel, what you will eat that night, what you will do to relax when the job is done.
