As an artist it is a lifetime goal of mine to have a painting in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. Every year there are around 16000 entries for sale and around 1000 paintings get to be hung in the exhibition during the summer.
First you have to get through a few rounds of stringent judging. Last year I got two entries (which is a feat in itself, as they do sell out) and I waited to find out my fate at the first round of judging - which is the digital judging. The theme was something to do with being connected.
First entry was a beautiful modern meditation/buddha type picture (which featured three hand positions, signifying 'kind thoughts, kind words and kind actions'), the phrase that I use at the end of my yoga classes.
Second entry was a brightly coloured abstract willow tree which was plugged into the trunk.
I didn't get through with either entry :(
This year the theme is 'space' - not relative to the space (as in the galaxy) but to the space between things and around things.
I have entered the following two pieces and will come back with an update when the digital judging happens on March 20th 2024:

Send me good vibes - It's a life long dream to have a painting hanging in this Exhibition
March 2024 Update: this year I did not get past the first round of judging. I'm not put off, I will be entering again in 2025
