Good Mantras to Heal the Root Chakra:

I am, I survive, I am safe, I have enough, I am grounded

The Root Chakra is the base of the Chakras, these are the energy centres of the body. It is located at the base of the spine, the tailbone, the perineum. The Root Chakra is all about our connection with the Earth, being stable in life and staying grounded. Because everything starts from the ground up, it makes sense to begin our journey through the Chakras with the Root Chakra.

The colour associated with the Root Chakra is red and the element is Earth. The body parts associated with the Chakra would be all our bones and skeleton, the base of the spine, legs, feet, genitals and large intestine.

If you imagine a tree with its strong roots in the ground, it not only pulls nourishment from the earth below, but it also has so many extremely important links to the environment we live in. The tree changes carbon-dioxide into oxygen though photo-synthesis, it provides shade, food in the form of berries, fruits and nuts, it offers shelter using the wood to build, warmth using the wood to make fires, tools also can be made from the wood. In fact, those strong roots have so much importance when they hold that tree strong and firm, do all these different tasks and yet they are also flexible to bend in the wind, to go with the flow of nature.

Think hard about the root chakra in many ways and about how we stay grounded. We too need to be strong and stay upright, our strong root chakra gives us healthy bones and a strong skeleton to do that, but we must also remain flexible to avoid breakages and go with the flow. When we breathe there is movement with the breath - a perfect example of that movement and flexibility needed to navigate this world and all of its changing circumstances. When our energetic roots are connected well - we are strong and secure we adapt and we grow.

Finding Balance

If the Root Chakra is weak (underpowered) - we may have wonderful fantastic ideas of new projects and tasks to fulfil that would be great - but maybe they never come to fruition, the spark is not ignited.

If the Root Chakra is too strong (overpowered) - we may find that we are seemingly very successful in everything we do and achieve, but it has little meaning and brings a hollow happiness, no spiritual connection or warmth.

Embracing the root Chakra - we can look out for the colour red, eat red foods, wear red clothes - be aware and notice - put a litte red item in your home and notice it, relate it to your Root Chakra.

Because the Root Chakra is the foundation - if we are able to focus on making sure our life foundations are as set as they possibly can bit, it will go a long way to finding this balance - here are some examples of life foundations:

- make sure your finances are in shape

- create a great homely place to live

- clear up clutter

- take care of your health - get fit

- notice what you eat and drink - an extention of being healthy

- sort out family relationships

Because of the nature of this Chakra - its great to connect to nature - get out and walk, be aware of all of mother nature's beautiful offerings. Take your shoes off and feel the grass or sand beneath your feet, feel how wonderful that connection really is when you actually take a mindful moment to notice it.

My favourite Yoga pose for thinking about Root Chakra and being connected to the Earth and the Universe is Tree Pose. Breathe in through the roots and out through the crown, breathe in through the crown and out through the roots - feel the prana filling your body.
